Let’a share some information about Islamic dressing today Islam being a complete code of life, tells proper dressing manners to its believers. You might think that why is a religion commenting upon such a minor issue like dressing. The reason is, your dressing is the most important part of your personality after your ikhlaaq.

We mostly judge people and even things on basis of appearance, there is not much time to discover people in depth at the first glance.

That is why, islam wants its believers to be dressed in such a way that they stand as a DIGNIFIED symbol of muslim ummah. There is enough flexibility allowed in dressing but there are certain rules to be followed while dressing. Rulings on Islamic clothing are a bit different for male and female but many rules are same for both. Here you go with those important rules:

Rule 1: Islamic clothing should be modest. This one rule is actually the base rule for all other Islamic

clothing rules.

Rule 2: Clothes should be loosely fitted. They must not reveal the curves and groves of your body.

Rule 3: Clothing that is see-through is not modesty, for neither men nor for women. The clothes must be thick and tidy enough so that the color of the body it hides is not visible, nor the shape of the body part underneath.

Rule 4: Your clothing style must never resemble to that of any other religion.

Rule 5: Both men and women must cover their “satar”. Now satar is a bit different for both genders. A muslim female should cover up her whole body except face, feet and hands. For men, the minimum parts to be covered are between the navel and the knee.

Rule 6: Muslim men should avoid wearing Gold and silk. Because these sources of beautification are considered feminine.

Rule 7: Lower piece of garment ( the trouser etc) but not be lower than ankles in case of males. While females are not allowed to expose their ankles. Hadith of Jabir bin Sulaym, Radi-Allahu anhu, in Abu Dawood. He asked the Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam for some advice when leaving him after his very first meeting. Of the six pieces of advice given him one was: “Never let your lower garment go below the ankles because that is arrogance. And Allah does not like arrogance.”

Rule 8: Ones dressing manners must not resemble the opposite gender. Every community has certain fashion or dressing manners which discriminates between man and woman. This discrimination should me maintained. Such men who dress like women or such women who dress and act like men are disliked by prophet Muhammad (s.a.w)

Rule 9: Dressing is a means of beautification, so your way of dressing must beautify you. Being modest in no way means shabby and ugly in appearance. Modesty is always finding a middle way, avoiding extremism.

Rule 10: Do not be extravagant in case of dressing, nor be arrogant after wearing a good dress. One Hadith states “Eat what you feel like and wear what you feel like. But avoid two things: extravagance and arrogance.” [Bukhari]

So, keeping in mind all these points, still there is ample room for you dressing. The curriculum has been provided to you, now Its up to you that how you manage to look good yet modest ! But the story does not end here, one must be vigilant in manners, behaviour, and speech, appearance in public and in character. Dress is only one aspect of the total phenomenon and reflects the secret of what is hidden in the heart.

A Muslimah should be dressed in such a manner that she behaves as a walking example of Islamic modesty and beauty. Ball is in your court, grounds is yours ! its up to you how you play and score good with in the rules.
